Top Tips for Day 1
Ok, so you’ve signed up to Football Manager Live, got your subscription ready, downloaded the client and have logged in for the first time. What to do next?As with starting any other game for the first time, it can be a little daunting to start with. You’re not sure what to do first, where to go and how to do it. Well good thing you’re reading this article then as you’ll soon be one step ahead of the rest and armed with all the knowledge you’ll need to make sure you get it right.N.B. There will also be a quick start guide to FML available here on the website very soon. This will go through step by step what to do on the first day and explain what all the different bits and pieces referenced in this article mean. This article is more about tips on how to start well, rather than instructions on how to do it.Before the gameworld startsHold on, time to rewind a little. While you’re waiting for your gameworld to launch for the first time, there’s no need to twiddle your thumbs. You can start thinking about what sort of team you want to build straight away.
Do some homework before you start. These are real players you’re using here, so do some scouting. If you have played any of the recent FM titles, make a list of those superstar wonder-kids that always turn out amazing. FML is using the latest database so they might not always be accurate but it’s definitely a good start.
Think about your search filters! If you want to find the best of the best, think about what attributes the players you are looking for might want to have. Do you want your strikers to be pacy or have a great work-rate? Having an idea of what you want to look for before hand, means that you can might be able to find that perfect player before he’s snapped up by someone else! There is a skill system in FML which helps define what sort of manager you want to be. Do you want to specialize in coaching? Do you want to be a master scout, a financier, a tactical mastermind or even a physio? One of the first things you’ll do is select some starting skills which will give you a boost in the area you want to concentrate on. If you’ve decided this before hand you won’t have to spend ages worrying about which to choose.Starting for the first timeWhen you first log into the game you’ll be greeted by your welcome message and then a big fat flashing red button in the top let hand corner asking you to use the setup assistant. This is a good place to start, as it walks you through step by step on how to set up your team. Go straight through all the team colours and pitch dimensions stuff, you can always change this later but you’ll want to get picking your players asap! This is also the stage where you can choose those starting skills I’ve already talked about. Use auto-select wisely! Many managers might want to handpick their squad but this can be very time consuming. What’s recommended is to auto-select a base squad and then use the remaining money to get those two or three stars you had picked out before hand. Don’t get star-struck; you have limited funds at the beginning so use it wisely. N.B. Auto-select can take a while to complete while it scouts the database for the sort of players you have asked for. You might want to go and make a cup of tea! Keep your wages as low as you can! The lower they are the more daily profit you’ll make and the sooner you’ll be able to afford the big names.Playing GamesYou’ll want to test your players as soon as possible and start playing some matches; this is a football game after all! A quick way to start this is using the match finder. Set up the search parameters for the sort of match you want to play and it’ll match you up with a similar team! You can also challenge managers directly. Start playing matches as soon as you can. Your players will be unfit and lacking in match practice initially, so getting some matches under your belt before you play some competitive matches is key!Chat Rooms and ModeratorsDon’t forget to introduce yourself in the chat rooms. You’ll find FML a much more fulfilling experience if you get to know the people you’re playing with. You can tell who your mods are by seeing them highlighted in blue in the chat rooms. There’s a help chat room for a reason! If you’re struggling and don’t know what to do, ask! Someone will always be happy to help you out!Just remember, come to the game with an open mind, make sure you have lots of time to explore whatever you need to know on your first day and don't expect the game to be exactly like the traditional FM series! Hello everybody, this week with the season over, we’re going to look at our late shift FAs and at how NFA and MLFA have ended this season.

I'd just like to round up the NFA season by congratulating the many competition winners in the NFA this season and also by announcing the player and team of the season.

Next, the NFA Player of the Season award goes to;

Messi received the most votes in the player of the season votes with Higuain a close second. Managing to get both 1st and 2nd place in these votes whilst also coming 2nd in the Premier League and winning the Premiere Cup means that Craig Johnstone of SPENNYMOOR UTD has been nominated as the NFA Premier Manager of the Season . Congratulations to Craig for that.

To start with congratulations to Schwarzenegger FC for winning the Premier League and well done to Porto Alegre Athletic and SF Cosmos for coming 2nd and 3rd respectively. The UFFA spots are soon to be decided so until then just give yourself a pat on the back.

Then at the other end of the table there’s the relegations to the teams who couldn’t cut it; Pond FC, Abaloi FC and Butler FC are all designated to the Championship for next season.

Match of the Week
With the dust having been settled on all the other competitions in the Daytime Football Association only one remained...... The DFA Cup Final. It had panned out like a typical FA Cup Final. Here we have DFA Super League, Bosna Melbourne FC up against the surprise package of the tournament Glenrothes Thistle who managed a 5th position finish in the DFA Championship, so far the giant killers of the DFA Cup. Only one question remained, would there be another victory for the minnows in this David v Goliath battle. The first leg was to be played at the stadium of Glen in the heart of Scotland, where there was no doubt the Bosna Melbourne FC would be met with hostile receptions. In front of a packed crowd, Referee Mike McCurry commenced proceedings.

And it didn't take long for the action to heat up, in the 2nd minute of play after a poor clearance from a free kick Roberto Guana, unleashed a spectacular half volley from just outside the area, a dream start for the warriors from Scotland. However celebrations were halted in the 4th Minute when Bosnia's rising superstar Miralem Pjanic tapped in after nice play on the right by Neri Cardozo. Nevertheless, the brilliant start to the match was cancelled by both teams happy to defend and attack on the counter. Bosna Melbourne FC had a few free kicks from outside the area, yet with some brilliant goalkeeping and wayward shooting, Glenrothes Thistle remained in contention. The match's minutes slowly ticked down and in the 90th minute Mario Balotelli was presented a wonderful one on one chance to give Bosna Melbourne FC a victory, it wasn't to be as Scottish stopper Iain Turner parried the shot into unoccupied territory. The expression on Mario Balotelli's face said it all.

We now turn to the return leg and the decider to be played at the Collosus stadium in Melbourne, Australia

Glenrothes Thistle were in high spirits for the clash in the land down under, Would this fairy tale continue? Or was it just too steep a cliff to climb for the Glenrothes Thistle players. The action commenced and this time it was Bosna Melbourne FC who took the lead in the 2nd minute via a sublime header from Giorgio Chiellini, the fans didn't have to wait much longer to celebrate as Miralem Sulejmani, the man who had missed so many costly chances in the first leg, scored a well placed free kick from just outside the area in the 9th minute. The grim faces on the Glenrothes Thistle fans could clearly be seen as Mario Balotelli put the icing on the cake in the 21st minute with a wonderful lob over the incoming keeper. A true testament to the Scottish fans who continued to cheer on their team even though deep down they knew it was over. Glenrothes Thistle threw players forward in an attempt to spark an unlikely comeback, but the stalwart defenders at Bosna Melbourne FC were never going to allow it. Bosna Melbourne FC celebrated their magnificent double, yet the real winner on the day was football, as it was displayed by the wonderful sincerity by both sets of players and supporters.

Interview - Juan "Eyelit" Cobos
This week we talk to Juan, a great guy with a top youth team to say the least and the best is still to come.

SG (Stephen Gilchrist) - Hi Juan, how has FML been for you this week?

JC (Juan Cobos) - Wow, a good question, I’m working with the young players, and it is very hard to get to the top of the Rank, some teams have really good young players, and we have a lot of work. Really meet good people, and good managers, anyone here love this game, and we have a great battle in some competitions.

SG - Yeah my youths are getting better now... breaking into the top 20! So is this your main focus are would you like to get the seniors to the top?

JC- I don’t think in seniors right now, I think it is a future for my team to work only with young players, so may be in a few seasons we can get in the top of seniors with young players who I know how they play and what they can give to the team.

SG - Sure you’ll do well there as well. And like most you’ve got a nice low wage for your whole team which always helps with saving up for those big names, you planning on spending big, even big on a youth player?

JC - At the moment of bid for young players, just try to take care in the money, I think that in a short time, my team with low wages will get in the top of any division or competition.

SG - Sure... the top 10 has some very young teams in it. So, if you get into the release how are you planning on starting, will it be all youth again or maybe put a little more into the seniors?

JC - No, I have a conviction on young players, so I will do the same, all young players, and some seniors to be competitive. Maybe with Jeff we will have a great fight for good young players..! He actually is the best and my effort is to beat him

SG - Yes that’s true, with the youths playing well for the seniors they will grow quicker and progress much better. Do you look towards the youth ranks and comps more than trying to win in the seniors, or do you focus just as much on the seniors as you have the same players in both teams?

JC - Just working on young player’s competitions, I have to wait 3 or 4 seasons, trying to stay in Premier, and only win all young players comps that are in the GW. Seniors are for the future, today middle rank is well, but in young players, looking to be always on top.

SG - Good luck with that, I’ll be looking to be up there challenging for top youth spot soon!

JC - May be with more time to design a plan for the future will let me stay in fight with seniors too. Will be nice, I think all managers have to thinks in the future!!

SG - You say look to the future, is that the best tip you tell others? Start young and build up?

JC - Yes, this is my work, and may be, in release I can probe this theory. Thanks Step, for your friendship, your patience, and for this interview!

SG - Well good luck with that, your work so far has been great and I hope to see you in FML for a long time, especially in release. Thanks for taking the time out here to chat for the paper.
